About the initiative
The Mashinani War on Cancer (MWOC) program was launched in 2017 to address the rising cases of cancer in underserved communities. The initiative focuses on early detection, which significantly improves treatment outcomes and saves lives.
MWOC conducts regular cancer screenings, awareness walks, health talks, and radio sessions to educate the public about the importance of early diagnosis. Since its inception, 246 women and 47 men have been screened, with 79 individuals screened in 2024 alone. Ten suspicious cases (nine females, one male) have been followed up, six of whom received further diagnostic support, and ten women have benefited from treatment.
The program also emphasizes holistic health by organizing medical camps that offer cancer screening alongside other health services. This approach encourages broader community participation and fosters overall health awareness. Moving forward, MWOC aims to screen at least 200 people annually, increase male participation in prostate cancer screenings, and expand the reach of its radio awareness campaigns.
