We Do

Tosha Youth Group is a dynamic and impactful youth-serving organization founded in 2007 and officially registered in 2008 under the Ministry of Gender and Social Services, with registration number SS/MLD/CD/60/2008. Since its inception, Tosha has been dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of its members while working to empower the broader community socially, economically, and spiritually. The organization stands out for its innovative approach to empowerment through “edutainment” — a powerful blend of education and entertainment. Tosha leverages creative methods such as drama, music, and other interactive activities to engage and inform individuals, making learning both enjoyable and impactful. Tosha Youth Group strategically focuses on five core thematic areas that are essential to the development of the community:
  1. Education – Ensuring access to quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all community members, especially the youth.
  2. Sexual Reproductive Health and Other Health-Related Issues – Raising awareness and providing education on crucial health matters to improve wellbeing and prevent disease.
  3. Gender Mainstreaming – Advocating for gender equality and empowering both women and men to play an active role in society’s development.
  4. Environmental Conservation – Promoting sustainable practices and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within the community.
  5. Agriculture – Supporting sustainable agricultural practices to boost food security and enhance economic opportunities within the community.
Through a combination of capacity-building training, outreach programs, and edutainment, Tosha Youth Group is making significant strides in nurturing a healthier, more informed, and empowered community. By blending education with entertainment, Tosha ensures that individuals not only gain knowledge but also enjoy the process of learning, which fosters lasting positive change. Tosha’s work is a testament to the power of youth-driven initiatives, and the group continues to serve as a catalyst for progress in the sub-county, impacting lives and creating lasting change.

Challenges

  • Difficulty attracting and retaining skilled staff and volunteers.

  • Difficulty measuring long-term impact of programs.

Achievements

  • Successfully created community awareness projects on agriculture, funded by Ustadi Foundation, leading to the purchase of posho mill machines, offering affordable milling services to vulnerable Malindi community members.
  • Implemented successful Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) projects, funded by Reproductive Health Network Kenya.
  • Won the Jipange competition, emerging as the best team with competent messages on HIV/AIDS awareness.
  • Became a role model for many young people, changing the behavior of over 50 youths to date.

Community Health Outreach

Community Health Outreach” provides free medical services, health education, and workshops to underserved communities, improving health outcomes, promoting prevention, and empowering families.
