Mission
Planting One million trees each year in schools (fruity trees), public land, hospitals parks and road reserves.
Vision
A green environment, micro parks in 400 schools in Kilifi with fruits and increased rainfall levels.
Challenges
1. In adequate tree seedlings to plant.
Most of the time we are given land by interested parties but
we end up utilizing a fraction of land due to few tree
seedlings.
2. Transport
We are faced with difficult during transportation of the tree
seedlings to the planting areas.
3. Payment of staff
After planting we always ensure that the trees are taken care
of. This is done by assigning staff members to do the
watering. It becomes costly running projects in dry areas
because we have to pay persons to water the trees.
4. Water
Kilifi is a region that receives minimal amount of
rainfall. In order for the trees to grow we need to
water them. This always a challenge because we have
very few water storage facilities and dams in the
region. By having dams and 10,000L tanks we can be able to triple our tree planting number.
5. Advanced equipment
The areas we plant trees are usually very hard. To use the old methods of digging holes takes a lot of time.
This can be solved through having advanced equipment’s like hole, drillers. Equipment for watering especially drip irrigation.
Achievements
1. Park greening.
We have been able to bring 90 members together in November 18 th which helped us plant more than 200 trees in Buntwani park. through doing this we have green the park and in the near future people will have shade to sit under.
2. Micro park at Shomani Girls
We visited Shomani Girls during the Wangari Mathai day and planted 167 trees which included fruity trees. By involving the learners, we have been able to instill the benefits of tree planting and protection at the younger age. The students will start enjoying trees in 2years to come.
3. Tree protection
We have been able to protect trees from being cut through creating awareness on the importance of forest cover and green cities. The number of trees cutting has largely reduced due to our efforts.
4. Mangrove restoration
We planted 6450 mangrove’s at Gedeng camp. Which is a hippo camp. This has helped the community members be convinced that through collaboration we can be able to make change. The community at Gedeng camp has expressed the project and are doing mangrove planting monthly to restore the mangrove cover.
5. Changing the mind set of community
members
Through the tree planting awareness creation, we have been
able to make the community, political class and institutions
to start planting trees land protect the already existing ones.
